Almost bought the new Dualit Espresso machine at a fraction of the cost of this... however I got the chance to buy an ex-demonstration Ascaso/Innova 'Cow' and grabbed it.
Frustrated that no-one had reviewed this item I thought you might appreciate the input. Not only does this look amazing, it is really well made, quite heavy and therefore incredibly stable. The three switches at the front click on and off very solidly. You don't have to hold the machine while inserting or removing the filter holder (as you do with the Manual Pavoni). The filter holder feels heavy and comfortable while grasped. Coffee: You get the most amazing crema head to the espresso (looks just like a small Guinness)! The milk frother is sturdy and powerful, makes great cappucino & hot chocolate.
Like most things there is a slight learning curve. You need to spend time reading the manual and making a few 'test' coffees.
Needs to be switched on about 10-15mins before use to warm up. If making cappucino, switch the 'steam' switch straight after pouring your espresso. Wait for the 'coffee' light to go out (1min or so), then froth away.
The water reservoir, which is to the side and not that visible, is easy to top up while in use, unlike other machines.
Positives: All the above
Negatives:
1) If I were designing this I would make the frothing arm 1 inch longer.
2) If you think that coffee-making is a clean process, then be a whimp & go for the pod only version.
That said, this thing looks so good in my kitchen - the fact that it makes amazing coffee is a bonus. I hope this helps.
